Domestic Exchange Program

Domestic student exchange is a program in which students may study at APU partner universities within Japan for both short and long-term. Currently, the program includes 2 universities: Ritsumeikan University (Kyoto city , Kusatsu City ,Shiga/ Ibaraki City ,Osaka) and Akita International University (Akita city, Akita prefecture).

RU/AIU Student Exchange Programs and AIU Winter Program (2020 Spring Dispatch)

Applicants must be somewhere between their 3rd and 6th semesters at the time of application.

  • Application Period: Wed. October 9 – Thu. October 24 16:30:00
  • Notification of Screening Results and Interview Date: Mon. October 28
  • Interview Date: Tue. October 29 - Wed. October 30
  • Announcement of selected participants: Wed. December 4
  • Guidance Session: Wed. December 11

Application Documents

Please complete the following 2 steps by the submission deadline. It is important that you complete both steps. Missing a step is considered an incomplete application and will not be accepted.

- For AIU applicants, a copy of TOEFL score sheet is requested to present upon application

Note: Above two forms must be signed by both an applicant and his/her guardian and financial sponsor and only the original documents will be accepted.
- Please ask your guardian and financial sponsor to download this form and ask them to sign the form and send the original document to you via post. Make sure to write your signature on the document as well.

Description
  • Credits completed while on these programs can be transferred at APU credit.
  • As you will continue to pay APU tuition during the program, there will be no additional tuition fees billed by the partner institution.

Ritsumeikan University (RU)

Semester Exchange Program

This program allows students to be enrolled at and study courses at the university for 1 semester or 1 year.

Description

This university has more colleges than APU, and therefore you can take a variety of courses.

Application Criteria
Eligibility Current year 3rd-6th semester students (Applicants must be in their 4th-7th semester at the time of departure)
No. of Credits Number of semesters spent at APU×14
Grades Cumulative GPA of at least 2.50
Language Ability Recommended to have completed all language subjects required for graduation before program begins
Application Period For September departure: April-May
For March departure: October

Summer Session Exchange Program

During this program held in August or September, students may study 1-week-long summer session subjects. Courses are held primarily in Japanese.
The information of 2019 summer session program will be updated on May 2019.

Description

This program allows you to experience another university in Japan for a short time. Participants will stay in the RU seminar house.

Akita International University (AIU)

Semester Exchange Program

This program allows students to be enrolled at and study courses at the university for 1 semester or 1 year.

Description

All courses are held in English, with small class sizes.

Winter Program

This program allows participants to take winter program subjects held during the 3 months of January, February and March.

Description

The program takes place during the 2nd quarter of the fall semester, with participants maintaining their enrollment at APU. This program allows you to experience another university in Japan for a short time. Courses are held in English.

Application Criteria
Eligibility Current year 3rd-6th semester students (Applicants must be in their 4th-7th semester at the time of departure)
No. of Credits Number of semesters spent at APU×14
Grades Cumulative GPA of at least 2.50
Language Ability Must have obtained a TOEFL score of at least 500 (ITP accepted)
Application Period For September departure: April-May
For March departure: October
