APU’s Multinational Student Team Supports the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup~Demonstrating Strong Language Skills and Adaptability at an International Sporting Event~
From September 5 to 14, 2025, a total of 15 APU students—both Japanese and international—served as support staff for the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup held in Okinawa. Making full use of their multilingual abilities and communication skills developed in APU’s multicultural environment, the students contributed significantly to the smooth operation of the tournament.
First Challenge as International Tournament Staff
For the students, this was their first experience working as staff members at a global sporting event. Through direct interactions with participating teams and tournament officials, they were able to put their classroom learning into practice. One student shared, “I was nervous at first, but engaging with so many people boosted my confidence.”
Leveraging Diverse Backgrounds
The 15-member team consisted of both Japanese and international students. Switching between multiple languages such as English and their native tongues, they acted as cultural bridges connecting athletes and staff from around the world. Their adaptability, cultivated in APU’s diverse environment, was a key asset in ensuring successful communication and cooperation.
Looking Ahead
This experience allowed students to recognize the value of sports as a medium for international exchange. Building on this, they aim to deepen collaboration with companies and local communities, expanding opportunities to apply their learning in real-world settings.
