New products have become a familiar part of our everyday lives. In order for companies to develop these new products, they have to draw on the strengths of many different departments such as manufacturing, development, marketing and more. The success or failure of the product rests on how well these different aspects can be worked together.

In order to succeed in developing new products, greater cross-functional integration across departments, integration of strategies between executives and managers, and the integration of products for consumers and industrial firms are required. This is an extensive and interesting field of research.
