On Wednesday, October 13, 2010, the "APU Rice Flour Cookies - a Tale from APU" went on sale. The APU Cookie concept was the Grand Prize Winner of the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University 10th Anniversary Merchandise Idea Contest.

The rice used to make these cookies was harvested from the paddy-fields of Uchinari, Beppu - home of one of Japan's "Top 100 Terraced Rice Paddy-Fields". In addition, the local "Wind - MORINO CRAYON" facility for the intellectually disabled has also been involved in the development and manufacture of these cookies.

The package reflects APU's unique multicultural environment and contributions to the community and features images of the terraced paddy-fields of Uchinari, the symbolic APU "twin-towers", campus life, colourful student performances, and the smiling faces of the people involved in the baking process. A short introduction is also included in the box describing the story behind the cookies from the planning and development stages through to their manufacture. Each and every cookie is the product of this unique APU tale and the many people involved along the way.

The cookies are currently available at the APU Co-op but will be more widely available in the future. Be sure to try them!
