On Wednesday, June 6, 2013, the “AY2013 Spring Semester Award and Scholarship Conferral Ceremony” was held at the APU Convention Hall. Students who produced outstanding results in their academic and extracurricular activities in the AY2012 fall semester were recognized including four recipients of the ANDO Momofuku Award*¹, one recipient of the Yokoyama English Award*², and three recipients of the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund Scholarship*³.

APU Vice-President YAMAGAMI Susumu praised the efforts of the ANDO Momofuku Award recipients before handing each student their certificate. The respective Deans of the College of Asia Pacific Studies (APS) and College of International Management (APM), Prof. PISHVA Davar and Prof. YOKOYAMA Kenji, presented each undergraduate award recipient and praised their efforts.

Dean YOKOYAMA then handed a certificate to the recipient of the Yokoyama English Award, and the recipients of the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund Scholarship were presented their award by the Dean of the Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies, Prof. PISHVA Davar. Group and individual recipients of the Incentive Scholarship & Certificate for Self-motivated Students & Organizations were awarded, followed by recipients of the APU-Club Domestic Students’ Parents Association Self-motivated Students Scholarship.

Recipient of the ANDO Momofuku Award, MOHAMED Ikram Mohamed Ihthisham (APM3, Sri Lanka), represented his fellow award recipients and shared his aspirations for the future: “My study focus is accounting and finance. In the future I hope to present my thesis on management and accounting, study at the graduate level, and get some accounting work experience in a manufacturing company. My ultimate goal is to become a professor of accounting. I hope to follow in the footsteps of ANDO Momofuku and contribute to society through my work”.

*1 The ANDO Momofuku Award was founded through the generosity of the late Honorary Doctor ANDO Momofuku, the founder of Nissin Food Products Co., Ltd., to encourage and support students who have outstanding academic results, are of good character, and have played a leading role in various activities

*2 The Yokoyama English Award was established through a generous endowment by Professor YOKOYAMA Kenji, Dean of the College of International Management, with the aim of encouraging Japanese basis students to strive to improve their English ability in their first year, to encourage these students to discover the many different ways it is possible to learn at this university, and to cultivate human resources who can be internationally active in the future.

*3 The Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund Scholarship is a research scholarship currently offered in major universities in approximately 45 countries around the world for graduate students conducting research in the social sciences or humanities subjects. This scholarship has been available at APU since AY2009 for students studying at the Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies.
