Multicultural Camp fosters Inter-Cultural Exchange

Jul 6, 2007

The Multicultural Camp was held at 'OJIKA' (Beppu City Private Nature House for Young People) for two days on Saturday, June 30th and Sunday, July 1st, 2007.

APU, a truly international university which welcomes students from all over the world, carries out the Multicultural Camp every year with the aim of fostering intercultural exchange. Forty six domestic and 44 international students from 17 different countries and regions participated in the 2 days and 1 night camp. Many new friendships were forged through the various games and sporting activities, as well as cooking meals together.

To provide student leaders with the necessary skills to put on a successful camp, a Workshop for Multicultural Camp Leaders was held in May of this year.

One of the camp participants MOCHIZUKI Shunsuke (APM2, Japan) said, "I thoroughly enjoyed this year's Multicultural Camp. I was particularly moved when we sang 'We are the World' around the campfire and it hit home how much the theme of diversity within the song is evident at APU. It was a wonderful experience and I feel I have made many new international friends."
