JICA Training Course - Community Capacity and Rural Development for ASEAN Countries

Jul 9, 2007

Located in Oita—the birthplace of the 'One Village One Product' (OVOP) Movement—APU is currently hosting a training course for government officials who are associated with regional development projects for developing countries. The program is operated under the auspices of the Japan International cooperation Agency (JICA).

Nine public officers from ASEAN countries are taking part in this regional development training program, which is being held from Wednesday, June 27 to Friday, July 12. During the three-week program, the participants will have the opportunity to carry out fieldwork in municipalities throughout Oita Prefecture, attend lectures and complete case studies on community capacity development, the role of local government and brand promotion.

A number of the conference delegates expressed that the OVOP movement isn't really well known yet in their home countries. However, they considered the conference to be an ideal opportunity to engage in dialogue about OVOP initiatives in other countries. Many stressed a hope to take what they learnt back to their countries and contribute to making regional development a success.
