Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University

Fukuoka Venue for 1st APU Public Lecture of 2007

Sep 7, 2007

On Saturday, September 1st, APU's first Public Lecture for 2007 was held at the Ritsumeikan Plaza in Fukuoka City. APS Associate Professor Todoroki Hiroshi lectured on the theme of "Reviving the road of the Joseion Tongsinsa Envoys - The 'road' to exchange with students from Korea."

Associate Professor Todoroki talked about the 480 kilometer part of the trek between Seoul and Pusan undertaken by the Joseon Tongsinsa Envoys, diplomatic missions dispatched by the King of Joseon from Seoul to Tokyo to foster relations between Korea and Japan. During his talk he showed photos and newspaper articles from this August, when a group of APU students retraced the 480 kilometer trek with students from Kyung Hee University in Korea. Mr. Todoroki commented that "through this fieldwork, students were able to get a feel for what the Tongsinsa Envoys were like. In addition to providing the opportunity for exchange, it was also a valuable experience in learning about the life, customs and culture of Japan and Korea".

3 more public lectures will be being held at the Rtisumeikan Plaza in Fukuoka this year.
We look forward to seeing you there!
