7. Background and Reasons for the Name Change
The College of Asia Pacific Management began in 2000 with the opening of the APU as part of the university's goal to create the field of Asia Pacific Studies. The College has since grown into a center of business management education and research. Students from across Japan and the world have gathered to study Japanese and Asian business in order to succeed in the business world of the Asia Pacific. Many graduates have gone to work for Japanese companies where they thrive with an understanding of Asian and Japanese business sensitivities.
Since the 2004, the curriculum has put a stronger focus on general business management and global management issues. The curriculum was organized into the following four fields: Marketing and Corporate Strategy, International Business and Comparative Management, Accounting and Finance and New Business and Innovation.

Both the international cooperation projects in which the College is involved and the human resources sought by companies are expanding in scope from Asia to the entire world. The scope that the College now covers far exceeds what was expected when it was opened. In particular, APM recognizes that many companies seek both talented individuals to serve as liaisons between Japan and another country or region and Japan-based human resources active in the global business arena*4. Many companies feel that APU's multilingual and multicultural students can put their talents to work the global business arena.

While the focus will remain on the Asia Pacific, education and research will be conducted from the standpoint of global business management. Given this and the above reasons, the name of the College will be changed to the more suitable College of International Management.

8. Future Developments
Future developments in the College will be made based on the achievements to date of the College of Asia Pacific Management and on the mission "to create the future shape of the Asia Pacific region" and "to cultivate human resources for the Asia Pacific." Cooperative programs with companies will be expanded to promote practical education, the curriculum will be bolstered and faculty systems will be improved as we strive to create even more characteristic academic programs in APM.
