CROSS OVER SEA 2008 Begins

Jul 22, 2008

The charity event "CROSS OVER SEA 2008" is being held on campus for 4 days between Monday, July the 21st and Thursday, July the 24th. The event, organized by the APU Event Executive Committee CROSS OVER SEA, is being held to raise money for the Great Sichuan Earthquake and Myanmar Cyclone relief efforts. During the four days students are engaged in collecting donations at the APU Fountain. An array of traditional dances and music performances will be held and Myanmar food will be available at the APU Cafeteria during the duration of the event.

The APU Event Executive Committee CROSS OVER SEA was set up to assist nations affected by the December 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami disaster. The Committee is constantly trying to make more and more people aware and pro-active about the social issues and natural disasters that occur around the globe, from the viewpoint of "there are no boarders to world issues." In order to support the victims of such disasters, the committee holds charity events and fund-raising activities, sending the collected money to the devastated areas through organizations such as the Japan Red Cross Foundation. One of their main activities is a "Balloon Release," which involves the participants of CROSS OVER SEA charity events releasing balloons into the sky as a symbolic gesture to express prayers for the victims and to convey hopes for restoration and development in the afflicted countries. The balloons are eco-friendly and biodegradable.

On the final day of the event, July the 24th, the committee is planning to release a total of 1000 balloons. On the same day a Charity Event is being held in the APU Millennium Hall. People can attend this event by buying a 300 yen badge in place of an admission fee. This will help cover the cost of the balloons. After the Charity Event has ended all audience members will be given a balloon which will then be released simultaneously out by the APU fountain.

Passion from many will bring forth a new power. We look forward to welcoming APU students, faculty and staff as well as local citizens.
