Former Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka visits APU

On Tuesday November 4, 2008, the former Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (current leader of the opposition party) the Rt. Honorable Ranil WICKREMESINGHE visited APU.After Mr. WICKREMESINGHE enjoyed a chat with President CASSIM and Sri Lankan students he spoke with students studying in the Global Business Leaders Development Program (GBLP) and gave a lecture at the RCAPS seminar.

During his lecture entitled "The Impact of Small Government Competitiveness and Wealth Creation - Lessons from Reform in Sri Lanka" Mr. WICKREMESINGHE gave many examples of national policies to re-establish the Sri Lankan economy, the impact of the current global financial crisis, and the importance of a lasting peace.

After the lecture an in-depth debate about issues raised in the lecture took place between the former Prime Minister and the faculty staff and students who participated. It proved to be a valuable opportunity for those who attended to hear first hand about the Sri Lankan government's financial policy.
