Message from the Dean

GSM Mission

The Mission of the Graduate School of Management (GSM) is to cultivate creative well-rounded professionals and leaders who will play a central role in resolving management issues at globalizing enterprises and other organizations by imparting advanced management skills, a good understanding of business ethics and a deep insight into globalization.

大竹 敏次(おおたけ としつぐ)

Established in 2003, the APU Graduate School of Management (GSM) allows students to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in English. Despite its relative youth, GSM, together with the College of International Management (APM), successfully obtained accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a U.S.-based international business education accreditation agency in August 2016. Only 5% of the world’s business schools have been accredited by AACSB, and these include some well-known names such as Stanford University (USA), INSEAD (France), the National University of Singapore, and Monash University (Australia).

Based on the aforementioned GSM mission, which we presented to AACSB as part of the accreditation process, GSM students are expected to achieve the following learning goals by the time they graduate.

  • GSM graduates will understand "Business Ethics" theory
  • GSM graduates will obtain the "Advanced Knowledge of Discipline"
  • GSM graduates will have a "Sense of Innovation"
  • GSM graduates will acquire "Global Perspectives" in business management

AACSB accreditation is a world-renowned certification that is sure to benefit our students advancing to graduate schools both in Japan and around the globe and later during their career search. With this accreditation, GSM will transform itself from an international graduate school in Japan to a truly global graduate school.

I believe that all students who study at GSM will acquire an international perspective and world-class expertise as they grow into innovative global leaders who will play critical roles in the advancement of the international community.
