On Monday October 15th 2012, Dr. Bhubhindar SINGH, Assistant Professor of S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore gave a presentation entitled "Japanese Security Policy: Military Crises, Threat Inflation and Security Policy Development" at RCAPS Conference Room B bldg. 2F.

The focus of the speech was five external military crises occurring during the late cold war/post cold war period, namely the 1990-91 Persian Gulf War, the 1994 North Korea nuclear crisis, the 1996 Taiwan Strait crisis, the 1998 Taepodong crisis and the September 11 2001 attacks, and the consequent changes in both the international community and Japan's national security. The speaker highlighted the changes in Japan’s policymaking in overcoming social and legal limitations to enlarge its security role and engage in global security affairs.

The presentation was informative and demonstrated a comprehensive understanding. With concise PowerPoint slides and a coherent presentation, Dr. SINGH helped the audience to follow his speech. The seminar ended with an eventful Q&A period, with much audience interaction. All the questions and comments raised by the audience were responded to well. The presentation was well received by APU students, professors and other staff.
