Seminar Report; "The educational roles of extracurricular club activities in Japanese high schools"

“Playing Ball: The educational roles of extracurricular club activities in Japanese high schools” was the title of Professor Thomas Blackwood RCAPS lecture on December 21st, 2016. Professor Blackwood has spent over a decade investing the social and cultural dynamics and implications of extra-curricular sports in the lives of Japanese high school students.
Particularly, Blackwood focus on the highly popular sport of baseball. He discussed the very formalized rituals and conventions that high school students must follow. Moreover, he analyzed the overall effect such activities have on a student’s academic performance.
Professor Blackwood spoke to a fully paced room of over 60 students. During the question and answer period, Blackwood responded to an array of questions from his audience.
