Reducing the carbon emissions that cause global warming is an essential task for modern societies. To promote awareness and action among regular citizens, Oita City, in cooperation with APU, is holding the first “Public Lecture Series for Achieving a Low-Carbon Society.” Participants will consider various approaches and techniques to help make the concept of a “low-carbon society” a reality.

This lecture series is being held by Oita City, with APU, the Asia Pacific Innovation Management Center (AP-IMAC), and APU-Integrated Man-Biosphere Center (APU-IMAB Center) as co-hosts.

Information on “Achieving a Low-Carbon Society: Lectures for Citizens”

The Oita City Industry Activation Plaza: Small- and Medium-sized Enterprise Support Lectures “Achieving a Low Carbon Society: Lectures for Citizens” will be held as detailed below. Professors from APU’s Asia Pacific Innovation Management Center (AP-IMAC) will give the lectures.

Participants of these lectures will think about how to achieve a “low-carbon society” through eco-friendly business and lifestyle practices that reduce the greenhouse gases responsible for global warming.

On Thursday 4 and Friday 5 of March, 2010, the First International Expert Group Meeting of MEDSYN ASIA 2010 was held at APU under the sponsorship of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). Inviting professionals and research experts from around the world in the field of medical and health sciences, information and communication sciences and other related technologies, this meeting was convened by former APU President Monte CASSIM through the cooperation of Prof. Parakrama CHANDRASOMA of the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine.

Oita University will host the “Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration Strategy Development Project (Strategy Development Program) Symposium” as follows.

Additionally, booths will be set up at the symposium featuring panel displays from various schools. APU will also participate in this, and plans to introduce the research activities our Professors are involved in through panel displays and other materials.

Oita University’s Office of Intellectual Property will hold the “Security Trade Control Seminar” as follows.

This seminar will feature a lecture from Mr. Ito Masami, who currently serves as Director of the Japan Society for Intellectual Production, Professor at the Innovation Center for Cooperative Research of Gunma University, and Head of the Intellectual Property Strategic Office. Based on the increasingly relevant theme of security trade control, Mr. Ito is scheduled to speak about advancing international industry-academia-government collaborations and technological exchange at the university/technical college level.

This seminar will also be broadcast live to APU through our TV meeting system in RCAPS Conference Room B, so it is possible to participate from here as well. Any professors interested in this seminar are highly encouraged to attend. This seminar will be held in Japanese.

From January 8 until January 20, 2010, fourteen delegates from The Philippines, including mayors and officials from the Department of Interior and Local Government, came to APU for two weeks to participate in the JICA commissioned "Training Course and Seminar for Philippine Municipal Mayors of Clustered Local Government Units (LGU): One Village One Product".
