On the weekend of December 15 and 16, 2012, members of Habitat APU took part in a donation appeal with nine Habitat student organizations from seven universities in the Kansai area. Habitat APU is a student organization involved in volunteer housing construction projects around the world. The donation appeal took place at six venues in three prefectures around Japan including Oita and Kyoto. The proceeds will be put towards housing repair projects underway in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, which was devastated by the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami disaster. Habitat APU carried out their appeal in front of JR Beppu Station. Leader of the donation appeal, OTSUJI Takahiro (APS2, Japan), expressed his gratitude: “Volunteers in Tohoku are making steady progress towards rebuilding the affected areas. We will continue our campaign in the hope that everyone can have a secure roof over their head. Thank you to everyone who showed their support over the last two days”. Deputy leader, TAKASHIMA Chika (APS2, Japan), reflected on the appeal: “We will continue sharing our thoughts and experiences so that the Tohoku disaster does not fade from peoples’ memories”.
Twenty-two APU students took part in this campaign involving approximately 200 participants. Thank you to everyone who offered their cooperation and support.
