Governor of Oita Prefecture
Mr. HIROSE Katsusada
Congratulations to all of you who are beginning your studies at the prestigious Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University. I would also like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all of your family members on this joyous occasion.
Since its founding in April of 2000, APU has kept a stellar track record as a leader in the globalization of higher education in Japan, including the acquisition of international accreditation for its world-class business school. It is a bastion of knowledge that Oita can proudly boast of to the world, but it is also firmly integrated in its local community. By assisting with intercultural understanding and English education at elementary and junior high schools throughout the prefecture and by participating in local events, APU has proven to be a strong partner in the internationalization and revitalization of Oita. Furthermore, when the new “College for Sustainability and Tourism” is established next year in 2023, I expect it to also contribute greatly to the promotion of our local tourism industry.
Global, yet still firmly rooted in its local community—it is no wonder that APU has attracted students from about 90 different countries and regions. Here, I am certain you will be able to be constantly exposed to the trends of the world, learn about a myriad of ideas, and forge friendships that will last a lifetime. Everything you learn and everyone you meet at APU will help you grow as a person and take the future into your own hands.
While attending APU, I hope you will take an interest in what Oita has to offer. Enjoy everything from its abundant natural beauty and history to its culture and unique local foods as you proactively deepen your ties with the people of the prefecture. I also hope that Oita can become your “home away from home” and that, one day, every one of you may be able to become a bridge between different countries, between different regions, between different people, and of course, between Oita and the world at large.
In closing, I would like to wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors, and I pray for the continued prosperity of Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University.
During orientation, important information about studying at APU (curriculum, course registration, grading, etc.) as well as leading a physically and mentally healthy student life will be provided during the guidance sessions.
