Eligibility
- High school first or second year students residing in Japan as of April 2026
Ideal candidate
- Should be future-oriented and have a strong desire to not only propose issues concerning the future of university education but also to solve them.
- Should have a desire to make a positive impact on the world via APU and universities in general.
Activity theme and overview
“If it doesn’t exist, create it. Universities can be far more exciting.”
- From the perspective of high school students who will live in the future society, consider the ideal role of universities. Envision the society of 10 or 20 years from now, Considering a university that we would genuinely want to attend, and to identify the problems facing universities today. In doing so, conduct research and deep analysis, comparing APU with other universities, as well as exploring the needs of society and businesses, and make recommendations accordingly.
Location of activities
Ritsumeikan Trust campuses (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Shiga, Oita) and online.
If necessary, you will also visit other educational institutions and outside organizations.

Selection method
- First-round screening: Please submit a self-promotion statement outlining the activities you have undertaken both within and outside the school, along with a three-minute presentation video in which you explain your ideas related to the activity theme. Submissions will be evaluated based on both the written document and the video.
- Final screening: Online interview conducted by APU executives
Screening and activity schedule
- Application Period: From 10:00 AM on February 13, 2026 to 10:00 AM on April 13, 2026.
- Notification of Results: Early May 2026
- Activity Period: From June 2026 to March 2027
Application requirement
- Applicants must obtain the consent of a parent or guardian before applying.
- Must be able to serve the entire activity period for the stated activity theme.
- Must be able to communicate in Japanese as activities are expected to be conducted in Japanese.
Notes
- We plan to conclude an outsourcing contract with successful applicants since activities will be compensated.
- APU will cover expenses for activities including transport costs.
Information will be updated at a later date.
Application Procedure for the First Selection
- (Step1) First, submit your entry via the application form.
- (Step2) Prepare the Self-Promotion documents using the template.
- (Step3)Create a presentation video based on the Presentation Video Guidelines.
- (Step4) After submitting your entry through the application form, you will receive instructions on where to submit the materials prepared in Steps 2 and 3.

Can a third-year high school student apply to become the future visionary vice president or a summit member?
A.
From the perspective of balancing academics, participation is limited to first and second-year high school students.
Q.
Is it necessary to attend an online briefing session when applying?
A.
While it is not mandatory, we recommend your participation as we will be explaining the program overview and how to apply.

Do you have opportunities to communicate with people from overseas?
A.
There will also be opportunities for interaction with current students at our school (international students). Additionally, if deemed necessary, communication with relevant organizations abroad may also be possible.

I am studying abroad during the activity period of future visionary vice president, can I participate in the activity from overseas?
A.
Due to the need to balance academics and the impact of time differences on activity hours, participation is not permitted.
How to apply

Is there any format specification for submitted videos?
A.
It is essential that answers to all the questions are included,
but there is no specific format requirement. You are free to choose your attire, whether to show your face, or use a slideshow format, etc.

Is Japanese the only language used in the submitted video?
A.
Since many of the judges are native Japanese speakers, Japanese is preferred; however, submitting in English will not affect the evaluation.

If the length of the submitted video exceeds 3 minutes, will it be ineligible for evaluation?
A.
A slight overrun will not affect the evaluation, but as a general rule, please submit the video within the specified time.
Q.
Is it right to say that the term "University Issues" in the questions refers to all universities, not just APU?
A.
This refers to all universities, not just our school.
Activities

What kind of people can I work with by participating in this program?
A.
You will work with members from all over Japan of the same generation, and, when necessary, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with our university’s president, vice president, faculty members, and current students. Additionally, if needed, collaboration with local governments, businesses, and educational institutions nationwide is also possible.

Since this is primarily a student-led activity, we ask that you respect this aspect, and there is no need for the teacher to attend the meetings with the student.

What arrangements are planned for events, such as weekend gatherings in Tokyo? Is it necessary for a teacher to accompany the students, or is it sufficient for the student to attend on their own or with a guardian?

A.
Teacher supervision and the presence of guardians are not required. The activities are intended for students only, and during the events, university staff (administration) will provide guidance and support.

Do high school future visionary vice presidents and summit members only make recommendations on current issues of universities? Are there any plans to actually take any action?
A.
Depending on the proposal, there is a possibility that you will be involved in the actual implementation.

Is it possible to balance high school studies, club activities, other activities, etc. and work as a future visionary vice president/summit member?
A.
We aim for an activity that can be balanced with other commitments and existing activities. There is no need to give up your current activities for this project, but you will need to take the initiative in scheduling and managing your time to ensure everything can be balanced.

The activity theme mentions a comparison between APU and other universities, but is it aimed at domestic universities only?
A.
This includes overseas universities. There is no need to pay special attention to Japanese universities.

We are considering a group size that makes it easy to work in small teams.
