On Monday, October 27, a Midterm Report Meeting by the APU Student Future Visionary Vice President and Summit Members was held on the APU campus. The purpose of the meeting was to share their progress and deliberation outcomes to date with APU’s executives regarding the initiative’s core objective, envisioning the APU campus as a place to realize the Lifelong Learner (LLL) concept, and to receive guidance on future directions.
To date, the student members have engaged in extensive discussions and presented their ideas using a case study focused on the effective utilization and revitalization of AP House 4, APU’s off-campus facility located in Beppu City. Given its prime location in the heart of the city, the proposal emphasized reexamining the functions of the existing facility and pursuing renovation as a means of maximizing its potential.
In particular, the proposal to establish a community lounge aimed at fostering interaction across generations attracted strong interest from APU’s executives. Discussions are ongoing on how to create a space where students, working professionals, local children, and residents can naturally gather and learn together. Reflecting the students’ strong sense of ownership, the proposal also incorporates the idea that “there should be a place in downtown Beppu where people can study and develop their skills 24 hours a day.”
Looking ahead to the final presentation, the APU Student Future Visionary Vice President and Summit Members will revisit broader questions such as the future vision of the APU campus as a whole and what a next-generation campus capable of making a global impact should look like. Based on this, they plan to further develop more feasible and concrete proposals, including implementation strategies and investment plans. By engaging in regular discussions with the President of APU and incorporating perspectives from various stakeholders, they will continue to deepen their discussions with an eye toward the realization of the LLL concept.
