APU hosted 17 graduate students and two professors from BI Norwegian Business School's Department of Communication and Culture from November 9-16 as part of a course titled "Cross-cultural Negotiations: Doing Business in Japan".

The goal of this experience was to enable the participants to learn about Japanese and Norwegian business, and to develop negotiation skills through intercultural communication. Students from BI and APU's Graduate School of Management participated in lectures on Scandinavian management and negotiation exercises from BI faculty, and lectures on Japanese enterprises, leadership, and Japanese family businesses from APU faculty. Outside of the lectures, the students also visited the Takasaki Nature Zoo, the natural spring "Hells" of Beppu, Kitsuki City, as well as the Sanwa Shurui company headquarters in Usa City.

As an accredited institution, APU will continue to work with other AACSB-accredited universities, building ties with top business schools to enhance and extend the educational opportunities at APU through similar types of exchange.

Participating BI students had the following to say about the program:
“Meeting APU students was very interesting. I learned a lot about different cultures by negotiating with them.”
“Beppu and Kitsuki were amazing. I am very glad to be able to visit APU.”
“I was happy to be able to visit Japanese companies and hear about their marketing strategies. I also learned a little about Kyushu and was able to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage.”

* Founded in 1943 and located in Oslo, BI is Norway’s largest business school and the only university in Norway that has received triple accreditation from AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA.
