Kyushu Institute of Technology Launches “Global Learning Fundamentals,” a Required Multicultural Collaborative Learning Course
In April 2026, Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech), in collaboration with Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU), launched a new required course titled Global Learning Fundamentals.
The course was designed as a multicultural collaborative learning program in which students from diverse nationalities and academic disciplines learn together. Its educational objective is to equip students with the foundational skills needed to address challenges in a global society by fostering collaboration among individuals with different cultural backgrounds and perspectives.
Global Learning Fundamentals incorporates group discussions conducted in English and emphasizes the development of communication skills and the ability to examine social issues from multiple perspectives. Through activities such as introducing their personal backgrounds, exchanging ideas, and engaging in discussions, students deepened their understanding of cultural diversity and different approaches to design and problem-solving.
The course represents a flagship initiative of the Social Impact (SI) Project, bringing together two institutions with distinct strengths: Kyutech, a national engineering university with more than 100 years of history, and APU, one of Japan’s leading global universities. By combining engineering expertise with the international outlook cultivated in a multicultural and multilingual environment, the collaboration is creating new educational value.
Through their continued partnership, the two universities will further develop learning environments where diverse perspectives intersect and foster individuals who can envision and shape the future through both technology and human-centered collaboration.
