Change the World through Language Learning at APU
The Center for Language Education (CLE) at APU provides comprehensive learning opportunities and is dedicated to nurturing learners with strong language proficiency, intercultural competence, and autonomous learning skills.
Mission
Language education at the CLE goes beyond classroom-based learning. Through a variety of experiential opportunities, students engage in comprehensive learning. This approach not only develops advanced language proficiency but also nurtures intercultural competence—essential for collaboration with others—and fosters autonomous learning skills, encouraging learners to maintain a lifelong attitude toward learning.
MESSAGE
Welcome to the Center for Language Education (CLE) at APU. Guided by APU’s founding principles and the 2030 Vision, the CLE provides instruction in eight languages—English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Malay-Indonesian, Thai, and Spanish. As a Center, we are committed to equipping students with the language skills and intercultural competence needed to communicate in diverse multicultural contexts. We also aim to cultivate students who can deepen and broaden their learning by continuing to study autonomously toward their own goals.
The APU campus provides a unique multicultural environment where students in language courses can apply what they have learned in the classroom. This environment enables students to reinforce what they have learned and encourages them to deepen and expand their understanding of languages, cultures, customs and values. Furthermore, by engaging in learning both within and outside the classroom, students can develop mutual respect for diverse identities and learn to appreciate the value of different languages and cultures. By doing so, they can lay the foundation for becoming global citizens who have the power to change our world for the better.
