Since the latter period of the Joseon Dynasty, especially the late 18th century, which was the time of rule of King Jeongjo, geography rose suddenly as a subject of study in Korea. Geography was popular among scholars at the time and was positioned as the center of the practical sciences. There were many studies, and many geography magazines were compiled. Although the basis for the perception of their own country’s geography was not discussed explicitly, we can infer it from their compilations such as maps and books, and their drawings, and the literature they quoted. In this presentation, centering on the surviving geographical studies which the Korean scholar Shin Gyeong Jun, I would like to explore the characteristics of geographical systems in Korea at the time.
