In 2014, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) was selected by the Japanese government as a Global Hub University under the Top Global University Project.
APU will continue to stand at the forefront of the globalization of Japanese universities as a Global Traction Type university per its selection under that project.
This project aims to bolster international competitiveness in higher education and develop global human resources.
The objective of the “Top Global University Project” is to provide priority assistance to universities that decisively implement uncompromised internalization and university reform, and bolster the international competitiveness of higher education in Japan. APU was chosen by the nation’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for its record of such initiatives up to this point.
APU is being called upon to further its role in undertaking the challenge of trailblazing trials and driving forward the globalization of Japanese society
APU sees the peaceful, sustainable development of society, the co-existence of mankind and nature and the co-existence of people with differing cultures as the most important challenges faced by today’s world in the 21st century. In order to do its part to address these challenges, the university has adopted the following as its basic principles.
In order to become a true international university that does not fall into the trappings of a “university for facilitating the internationalization of Japanese people,” APU seeks to realize a university where students and faculty members gather from around the world. For that purpose, the university adopted Three 50s as a founding concept at its opening.

APU has a richly diverse, multilingual and multicultural environment in place that the highly-ambitious students who gather at the university from all over Japan and the world can take advantage of to bring forth new value and personally grow through dialogue and harmony.
From the time that it opened up to now, APU has vigorously pushed forward initiatives geared towards internationalization. In 2014, those initiatives were recognized with the selection of APU as a “ Global Traction Type” university under the “Top Global University Project” by MEXT.
APU has set the below Four 100’s as a new series of goals. Through those goals, the University will strive to realize a further evolved global community and enhance the quality of education that transcends simple multicultural exchange.
