Prof. Suzuki Koji (Professor, APU) gives a lecture at a RCAPS Seminar:

On Tuesday June 29, a RCAPS sponsored seminar was held at APU.

The seminar welcomed Prof. SUZUKI Koji (Professor, APU) to give a lecture titled, "Asian PPP (Public Private Partnership) project; a new type of Asian infrastructure project scheme with private funding".


Professor Suzuki's presentation was entitled, "PPP, PFI, BOT in LDC; public infrastructure project under private capital and management; how to decrease possible problems with utilizing shape of country analysis and cultural values". The seminar discussed: PPP (Private Public Partnership) in Japanese national strategic target IBRD database BOT (Build Operate & Transfer) in trouble by pattern Using OPA analysis Shape of country analysis Cultural value How to prevent possible troubles Professor Suzuki discussed the PPP projects which will and are taking place in the APEC member countries in 2010. He discussed projects taking place in China, Vietnam, India, Thailand, Cambodia, and Japan. He also discussed his idea of "Self help principle in social infrastructure development & ODA (Official Development Assistance". In his summary, Professor Suzuki stated that "Risk dealing of PPP, PFI & BOT is sometimes difficult as implementation ability is sometimes different to contracting ability". He also listed some points to consider including the "shape of a country, power of state sector with foreign company sector, power of state sector with local civil society" and that "implementation ability may be different by country under cultural value". Following the seminar, Prof. Suzuki took some time to discuss the situation in each audience member's home country and answered some questions which were raised.
