EDLSC Hosts the Multicultural Collaborative Learning SA Mini-Conference
From Monday, September 1 to Wednesday, September 3, 2025, EDLSC hosted the Multicultural Collaborative Learning Student Assistant (SA) Mini-Conference at Meiji University’s Yamanakako Seminar House. The conference was designed to develop student assistants who support multicultural collaborative learning in Japan and to promote mutual learning among universities.
The conference was organized as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)’s Support Project for Creating Social Impact through University Internationalization (SI Project). A total of 26 participants attended, including Leader Student Assistants (LSAs) and faculty and staff members involved in multicultural collaborative learning courses at APU; Meiji University students and faculty specializing in multicultural facilitation and training development; and a Tohoku University faculty member specializing in multicultural collaborative learning.
During the program, APU’s LSAs presented their experiences and the challenges they had encountered as SAs supporting multicultural collaborative learning. Participants then exchanged ideas and perspectives across universities. Meiji University students facilitated training sessions on topics such as leadership and intercultural understanding, sharing their knowledge and experience in human resource development. Working in mixed-university groups, the students engaged in lively discussions about the competencies required of SAs in multicultural collaborative learning. On the final day, each group presented a proposed SA training program.
Through the conference, students learned from one another across institutional boundaries and gained a renewed understanding of the roles and potential of SAs in supporting multicultural collaborative learning. Looking ahead to next year’s conference, EDLSC will continue exploring ways to expand the program and enable more SAs to participate.
