The theme of the symposium was " ;Fulfilling the 2010 South African World Cup Promise: Learning from the 2002 Japan - Korea Experience". The goal of this symposium was to apply the experiences from the 2002 Korea Japan World Cup to the upcoming 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The focus was on the challenges of preparing for the 2002 World Cup in Oita Prefecture and the influence hosting the tournament had on regional development. The discussion will allow the organizers of the 2010 World Cup to benefit from many the lessons learned during the 2002 World Cup preparations. The results of the symposium will be widely conveyed to the South African government, the World Cup Organizing Committee, universities, and students.
