What is the Field Study?

What is the Field Study? The Field Study is a program in which students, under the guidance of a faculty members, conduct on-site surveys and research activities based on themes related to the specialized fields of each college, deepening their own interests and concerns and building a bridge between theory and practice.

Why Field Study? Point 1
From the classroom to the world! Fully utilizing places of learning around the globe!

By going into the field, whether domestic or abroad, and experiencing the local problems and activities on the ground, students can deepen their understanding of both the basic and specialized knowledge they learn at APU. In addition, you will be able to learn more about various topics such as the environment, developing countries, international conflicts, and tourism by connecting with local governments, international organizations, corporations, entrepreneurs, NGOs, and other people you can only meet by going to the field.

Why Field Study? Point 2
Instruction by both APU faculty, and local specialists!

The program is offered in small groups. While on site, you will receive in-depth and detailed instruction in your field of specialization from APU faculty advisors. Depending on the program, students may be able to visit international organizations, government agencies, universities, NGOs, etc., which are normally inaccessible to them, and receive direct guidance from various experts through the network of faculty members, thereby further deepening the specialized knowledge learned in classroom lectures. In addition to deepening their specialized knowledge, they will also have the opportunity to think about their future careers.

Why Field Study? Point 3
A rare opportunity to experience the forefront in the field, and consider your future!

The connections you make with the people you meet through fieldwork and the lessons you learn in the field will give you a valuable opportunity to think about your future professional studies and your career vision after graduation. By deepening your specialized study, you will be able to clarify your future career vision and use it as a guideline for your subsequent study plan at APU.
