Programs Available
Penang is located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It consists of two parts: Penang Island, where the capital city, George Town, is located, and Seberang Perai on the mainland. Penang has among the highest population densities in Malaysia and is one of the country’s most urbanized states. Penang Island is Malaysia’s second largest city by population. George Town is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2012 and a thriving tourist destination that thirsts in heritage and culture.
Today, Penang attracts many investors and it is known as the ‘Silicon Valley of the East’ for its industries thereby Penang is one of the most vital economic powerhouses in Malaysia.
There are so many places to go, food to taste and things to experience. One can stroll along many golden sand beaches around the island. Penang National Park and Penang Botanical Garden offer the best nature experience for adventure and nature lovers. Unwind from a day of exploration at a spa before heading out for a dose of Penang’s vibrant nightlife.
A sustainable world, humanity and the future of the humankind are among the issues focused on by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Based on these over-arching principles, USM has been chosen by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education to implement the Accelerated Programme for Excellence (APEX) under its auspices in 2008.
Under the APEX proposal entitled, “Transforming Higher Education for a Sustainable Tomorrow”, USM has outlined its efforts in advocating the process of a sustainable development in ascertaining a more lasting future.
