Ateneo de Manila University’s vision and mission is rooted in the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus. It is inspired by St. Ignatius’ transformative experience of a loving God who acts in the life of every human person and the whole of creation; a God who calls people to service despite their weaknesses, and forms them individually and as a community of this purpose. Ignatian spirituality draws from and fosters a deep sense of gratitude and purpose in life leading to a passion to work for the greater good (magis); emphasizes personal care for each individual and formation of the whole person (cura personalis); cultivates a healthy mind in a healthy body (mens sana in corpore sano); and challenges people to engage and transform the world-for the greater glory of God, Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam.
