Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU) is a public research university founded in 1965, with historical roots in the Medical Academy of 1907. The campus‑based institution comprises five faculties – Medicine; Mathematics　and Natural Sciences; Arts & Humanities; Business Administration and Economics; and Law – and offers 92 degree programmes to a total of 29,529 students, of whom roughly 14% (≈4,000) are international.

HHU defines itself as a “citizen university”, actively linking teaching, interdisciplinary research and regional entrepreneurship (e.g. the Centre for Entrepreneurship, CEDUS). Its research profile is anchored in the national Excellence Initiative, notably the plant‑science cluster CEPLAS (in partnership with the University of Cologne), as well as strong programmes in medicine, natural sciences and the humanities.

Internationally, HHU participates in the European University Alliance UNIVERSEH (European Space University for Earth and Humanity) and maintains about 250 Erasmus partners together with roughly 30 additional global university collaborations.
