The University of Bergen (UiB) is situated in Norway's second largest city. With a population of almost 300,000, Bergen offers an appealing cultural life and a safe and relaxed urban atmosphere that remains deeply rooted in nature. When it comes to culture Bergen offers something for everyone, from the internationally respected symphony orchestra to black metal. Our students love the fact that they can enjoy a bit of city life with plenty of cultural events and simultaneously make use of Bergen's unique opportunities for outdoor adventures.
UiB is a comprehensive research-intensive university, with seven faculties. We have roughly 300 courses taught in English within the fields of humanities and aesthetic studies, natural sciences and technical subjects, social sciences, law and psychology. Being a coastal university, one of the research strengths is “the ocean”; marine biology, aquaculture and seafood, and of course sustainability. This also crosses over to disciplines within social sciences and humanities.
