Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives
Building an Environment Where Differences Become Strengths
APU is committed not only to multicultural coexistence, but also to creating a respectful environment where people with diverse values and backgrounds can thrive.
This page introduces a part of APU’s ongoing initiatives.
Creating an Inclusive Learning Environment
- Learning Opportunities in Collaboration with Local Organizations Promoting D&I
Rather than treating diversity merely as “something to be accommodated”, we provide students with opportunities to learn how it can generate new value within business and in the workplace.
- Establishment of the Basic Policy on Gender Diversity
We promote the development of learning and living environments that respect all forms of gender identity.
- Improving Accessibility for Students with Disabilities
Campus facilities are being enhanced based on assessments conducted by external specialist agencies.
Examples:
- Commissioned a survey with the Oita Independence Support Center to identify accessibility barriers for wheelchair users.
- Collaborated with Omron Taiyo to develop evacuation routes for students with disabilities.
- Installation of Calm-Down Spaces
Providing quiet spaces where students experiencing anxiety or panic symptoms can feel safe and regain composure.
- Provision of Free Menstrual Products
Inspired by the student organization SUPPORT FOR SISTERS open_in_new, menstrual product stations were installed in 11 on-campus restrooms.
Student-Led D&I Initiatives and Community Engagement
At APU, we actively support students as they discover social issues on their own and work to address them.
Aiming to create a society where people with diverse backgrounds can live more comfortably, many students are taking on challenges such as collaborating with the local community and creating new forms of social value.
