What is Genect?
Genect aims to build meaningful intergenerational connections between APU students and the local community through international exchange with the elderly. APU students from various countries will visit a nursing home in Oita several times a year and provide the elderly with opportunities to learn about different cultures and gain intellectual stimulation through cultural exchange and games. APU students will also learn about the operation of Japanese nursing homes and the daily lives of the elderly, reflect on the aging society and the situation of the elderly in Japan and abroad, and plan to share their new learning outcomes with the APU community. The core members are all international students, and the representative student started the project after gaining many insights through an internship at a nursing home. Interaction with the elderly is uncommon among APU student activities to date, and it is highly likely that this activity will bring new perspectives to students.
