Step1 Get to Know More About the Overseas Student Exchange Program
Student Exchange Café | Student Exchange Cafés are casual events, each with a specific theme. You can learn about the appeal of going on exchange from APU students who previously went on exchange and connect with peers who share the same goals. |
Student Exchange Fair | APU senpai who have been on exchange, students on exchange to APU from universities around the world, APU faculty, and staff will divide into booths and answer your questions! |
Individual Consultations (SEA/Staff) | Students have the option of speaking with a Student Exchange Advisor (SEA) or an Outreach and Research Office staff member depending on their inquiry. Please select and book the appropriate consultation session. |
Search about partner universities | Gather information about the university you wish to study at by narrowing down the application requirements, academic fields, etc. |
APU BUDDY | APU BUDDY is an organization made up of student volunteers to help exchange students from partner universities. We welcome students interested in volunteering. *Students will not be directly involved in assisting APU students go on exchange. |
Step2 GPA and English Language Requirements
Information about Language Proficiency Exams | You will need to obtain a certain score on a language proficiency exam in order to apply to the overseas exchange program. TOEFL ITP® Test and IELTS tests are held at APU each year. |
Studying English | At SALC (Self-Access Learning Center), there are study materials available for students of all levels, and students can effectively improve the areas they need to work on through guided self-study. In addition, PAs (Peer Advisors) are there to answer any questions or assist in conversation practice. |

Step4 Get Accepted/Join Guidance for Accepted Students
Accepted students must attend all guidance sessions and follow the necessary procedures. Students are responsible for applying to their host university, visas, housing, and purchasing airline tickets. Students are also required to purchase the designated insurance and risk management support.
Step5 Health and Risk Management
Maintaining your Health / Mental Health / Culture Shock
The cross-cultural adjustment process during and after student exchange may affect you physically and mentally. You can learn more about how to cope and where to get help here.
Risk Management: Be prepared for the risks you may encounter while on exchange.
Step6 Returning to APU
Job Hunting | Review this information if you are concerned about balancing your student exchange with your job hunting. |
Credit Transfer | In principle, subjects offered as part of the regular curriculum at your host university are eligible for transfer back to APU. Check the Overseas Student Exchange Program Credit Transfer Manual for details. |
