Accommodation and Living Costs

Incoming exchange students are expected to reside in a furnished single room at either AP House 3 or AP House 4, APU's off-campus student residences.

At the time of application, you must choose either AP House 3 or AP House 4.
Room assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis, with applicants being allocated a room in their preferred AP House (APH3 or APH4) in the order online applications are received. No changes can be made after submitting your preference.
Depending on the number of requests, you may not be placed in the AP House of your choice.

For more details about both facilities, please see the information below. Please also note that the housing fees are to be paid in full by the designated due date (approximately one month after the invoice is received). The invoice will be sent to you along with your notification of acceptance.

Insurance (Mandatory)

Exchange students are required to enroll in the Comprehensive Renter's Insurance for Students “Gakkensai” and the Japanese National Health Insurance.

Comprehensive Renter's Insurance for Students “Gakkensai”:

All APU students from overseas must enroll in this insurance and pay before coming to Japan. This insurance covers any accidental damage due to fire, rupture, explosion etc. in AP House.
The fee for this comprehensive renter's insurance will be charged together with the housing fees once your admission has been approved.

National Health Insurance (NHI):

International students who enter Japan with a student visa are required to enroll in this insurance by Beppu City and the Japanese Government. This insurance covers 70% of all your medical care costs.
NHI fee will be collected after arrival.
Enrollment in Japan's NHI will be completed on campus during the orientation period after your arrival in Japan.
