Why
Why We Recommend the Off-campus Programs
APU conducts many Off-campus Programs every year, and the faculty/staff for each program report on their experiences, the challenges they faced, and the program achievements. In addition, we make improvements each year based on feedback from participating students.
As you will see below, Off-campus Programs are extremely beneficial precisely because of the diversity on-campus at APU.
At APU, domestic and international students with diverse cultural backgrounds and values are engaged in academics and extracurricular activities on-campus. Students participate in Off-campus Programs and return to campus with new insights, interests and values. After that, they can expand the knowledge and interests they gained overseas by challenging themselves to participate in various activities on-campus. In this way, students can also make new discoveries on-campus. This synergistic effect of on-campus and off-campus further enhances student interaction at APU.
APU has designed these Off-campus Programs to maximize educational effectiveness. Most of the Off-campus Programs offer pre-program and post-program classes on-campus prior to the practicum. Through the pre-program classes, participants can acquire the knowledge necessary for the practicum and clarify their goals for the program in advance, thereby making the best use of their time at the destination and achieving greater results. In addition, after the practicum, students receive feedback from instructors, senior students, and other participants in order to fully understand how much they grew through the program.
At APU, students from a variety of diverse backgrounds learn from each other, thereby gaining multicultural competence that enables them to grow into leaders who will change the world. There are also several Off-campus Programs which help equip students with multicultural competence, such as programs in which domestic and international students work together, or programs in which students decide on a theme and conduct research. By actively engaging in off-campus activities and collaborating with students from various backgrounds, students develop the background knowledge necessary to play an active role in global society.
Students can earn credits from any of APU’s Off-campus Programs by achieving a certain grade, just like regular courses. In addition, most Off-campus Programs are held during quarter breaks and long vacations, when there are no classes. Essentially, students can earn more credits than the maximum registration limit for each semester. Therefore, participating in an Off-campus Program does not result in fewer opportunities to study on-campus.
APU has sent students on many Off-campus Programs, both domestic and overseas. We have repeatedly reviewed and improved our programs, and as a result, we now have a flawless support system which covers a wide range of areas, from academics to risk management.
