Groovenauts Global Business Case Challenge (GBCC) 2017

The third student-run Groovenauts Global Business Case Challenge (GBCC) was held for six days from October 2 through 7, attracting 60 students from 11 of the world’s top-ranking business schools.

On the last day, the remaining four teams gave their final presentations at Millennium Hall in front of a panel of 15 judges. Despite a valiant effort, the APU team was not able to advance to the final round. The winners and runners-up in this year’s GBCC were:

  1. 1st Place: Singapore Management University (Singapore)
  2. 2nd Place: University of British Columbia (Canada)
  3. 3rd Place: University of Florida (U.S.A.)
  4. 4th Place: Thammasat University (Thailand)

At the award ceremony, judge Annie Lo, the Senior Vice President and Chief Officer of the Asia Pacific for AACSB International, said, “I wish I could say that all of the teams won because I think it is an extremely difficult challenge to come up with a proposal in less than 24 hours. Choosing the finalists was not an easy task.”

The winning team from Singapore Management University said, “This was a very unusual week for us, and the fact that we won still hasn’t sunk in, but frankly, all of the teams were outstanding. The case was extremely difficult. We were not expecting a case pertaining to a Japanese medical device manufacturer as it’s not something you’d typically see in a business case competition. But it forced us to rise to the challenge and change our perspective. We hope to participate again in the future.”
