Travel the World in TOKIWA! A Multicultural Event in Beppu City

On Saturday, December 7, with the help of donations from the APU Culture Wagon Camp, an APU event was held at the TOKIWA Beppu Store in Kitahama, Beppu City.Participants were able to enjoy 15 different countries' cultures. This project was held as a commemorative event for the comprehensive agreement between TOKIWA Corporation and Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University.

On the first-floor stage, a “Multicultural Stage Performance” was held, featuring dances, music, and fashion shows from seven countries and regions. Many people from the community gathered to see and hear the music, songs, and performances, many of which they rarely are able to experience in Japan, and watched the students' performances with great enthusiasm. The Vietnamese students performed the theme song from “Doraemon” in Vietnamese, and the Japanese children and APU student participants from various countries and regions all sang the Doraemon theme song together, which made the audience smile.

In the 4th floor event area, “Multicultural Experience Booths,” where visitors could experience the cultures of five countries and two creative workshops, and a “World Arcade,” mainly featuring cultural introductions and games from six countries, were held. Visitors enjoyed listening to international students introduce their own cultures, trying henna and wearing costumes from different countries, playing percussion instruments, and other cultural experiences.

This was the first time since the Corona Virus Pandemic that a large-scale event in the community had been held. In addition to local residents, visitors from outside the prefecture and even from overseas attended the event! For the students, it was a fun and educational experience interacting with people they would not normally have contact with in their daily lives. We sincerely appreciate everyone's support.
