Asia Pacific University (APU) to study Business Management. It was my first time leaving my country without my parents, and it was a bittersweet experience. I felt the excitement of what awaited me in APU and Japan, but I was also sad for leaving my family and friends whom I love dearly. Even though I was the only Bhutanese student in my semester, the diverse community at APU made me feel welcomed and included.
The university experience has been transformative, and I aspire for more growth in the following years. APU's international environment has exposed me to diverse cultures, and ways of thinking that I have never experienced in Bhutan. Each day brings new learning opportunities—whether it's through classroom discussions, interactions with international students, or understanding Japanese culture. I've learned that global understanding goes beyond textbooks; it's about connecting with people, understanding their backgrounds, and finding common ground.
At APU, I've decided to major in Accounting and Finance. That is, since junior high school, I've been interested in business and have even engaged in small business activities with my friends. While entrepreneurship is my ultimate passion, I believe that having a solid foundation in accounting and finance will be of great use as I embark on my future career. My strategy is to first learn the technical skills of finance and accounting, and then use them in my entrepreneurial journey.
My country, Bhutan, is a developing country with a population of about 800,000. Our government prioritizes Gross National Happiness over Gross Domestic Product, which focuses on the progress in the well-being and happiness of the citizens with economic development. This means we have access to free healthcare and education, which I appreciated deeply when I experienced the cost of living in Japan. My dream is to serve my country and contribute to my King's vision for Bhutan's development.
Studying in Japan is a significant step toward that goal because Japan is technologically advanced and has efficient systems in place that I want to learn about and bring back home. The contrast is striking—while we don't even have traffic lights in Bhutan, Japan's infrastructure is incredibly sophisticated. APU provides me with a unique opportunity to become a global citizen, learning from students from all over the world and understanding different perspectives that can help solve challenges in my own home country. My long-term goal is to return to Bhutan and contribute to its development. I want to apply the knowledge and skills I'm gaining at APU to help modernize our systems, improve efficiency, and support our national vision of sustainable development. The scholarship I've received isn't just financial support; it's like an investment in potential, in a future where young people can make meaningful contributions to their communities.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the donors of the APU Global Leader Scholarship Fund. Your generosity has not only eased my financial burden but has opened a world of opportunities for me. This scholarship allows me to focus on my studies, engage fully in university life, and work towards my dreams without the worry of financial constraints.
The journey hasn't been without challenges. Adapting to a new country, learning a different educational system, and being away from my family have tested my resilience. But these challenges have also been my greatest teachers. I've learned independence, cross-cultural communication, and the importance of perseverance.
As I continue my studies at APU, I'm committed to making the most of this incredible opportunity. I will continue to learn, grow, and prepare myself to be a bridge between Bhutan and the global community. My goal is not just limited to personal success, but to contribute meaningfully to my country's development and globally, as a global citizen.
To the donors who made this possible—thank you. Your support is more than a financial contribution; it's a belief in the potential of young people to create positive change. I promise to honor this opportunity with hard work, dedication, and a commitment to making a difference.
