Reasons for Participating in the Program
I have been interested in urban environments and green spaces since high school, especially in how cities create a sense of calm despite their density. At APU, I plan to study urban design and landscape-related courses, and I felt this program would deepen my learning through direct observation. Experiencing cities like London, which constantly evolving, and Bath, which preserves historical landscapes while thriving as a tourist destination, offers insights that are difficult to gain on campus. I also saw value in learning about architecture, which is not a major focus in my usual classes. These reasons motivated me to apply for this program.
How the Program Helped You Grow
Seeing the contrast between urban and suburban development and preservation helped me understand the challenges cities face and diverse ways they address them. I realized the importance of creating comfortable spaces while maintaining vibrant tourism. I hope to connect this experience with my upcoming urban design courses and explore how people’s behaviors interact with urban spaces. Learning from cities with different cultures, histories, and urban structures gave me new perspectives that I aim to apply in my future studies and career. Ultimately, I hope to contribute to creating sustainable and comfortable urban environments.
Message for Students Interested in The Program
Learning from others is valuable, but walking through cities and seeing them firsthand offers insights you can’t gain any other way. Experiencing the streets, atmosphere, and rhythms of life in London and Bath helps bring classroom knowledge to life. This program not only broadens your perspective but also deepens your academic learning back on campus. If you are even slightly interested in cities or tourism, this will be a meaningful and inspiring experience. I hope more students take the opportunity to explore and learn through this program.
