Reasons for Participating in the Program
As a student from the College of Sustainability and Tourism, I was thrilled to learn about the Field Study Program, and I was delighted to have the opportunity to join. Having a keen interest in sustainable tourism and destination revitalization, I had taken several theory-based classes at APU. However, I was seeking a practical learning experience where I could apply the knowledge gained in class to real-world situations. The Field Study in Toho Village, focusing on community development, offered exactly that opportunity. It allowed me to enhance not only my understanding of sustainability in practice but also my Japanese language, communication, and leadership skills. I also believed that this program would be mutually beneficial, helping me grow academically and personally while allowing me to contribute to the development and revitalization of Toho Village, which is why I decided to apply for this program.
How the Program Helped You Grow
Field Study was an incredibly enriching experience for me, both academically and personally. I learned a great deal about Japanese lifestyle and culture while also gaining confidence in sharing my perspectives and taking on leadership roles when necessary. Interviewing professionals from various fields deepened my understanding of tourism and community development. As I aim to build my career in the tourism industry, I believe the knowledge and experience I gained through this program will serve as a strong foundation and a valuable asset for my future endeavors.
