Reasons for Participating in the Program

As I entered my final year, I found myself increasingly interested in academic experiences, and I felt this program was an opportunity I didn’t want to miss. I first learned about it a few months after returning to APU from my leave of absence. Up to now, most of my student life at APU has taken place outside the classroom, and I hadn’t had many chances to engage in the actual on-campus academic environment. That’s why I wanted to spend my final year experiencing what it truly means to learn in a university setting. Although the program focuses on Korean Studies, the professor emphasized that we could connect the project to our own research interests. That openness and flexibility also encouraged me to apply.

How the Program Helped You Grow

Through this program, I realized that learning does not happen only in front of a computer; it deepens when you walk through the city, meet people, and listen to their stories. The spontaneous encounters and genuine voices I heard while conducting surveys at the local university were especially memorable. I was also greatly inspired and supported by the humor, language skills, and initiative of the peers who joined the program with me. As I plan to pursue a career in the nursing and welfare field after graduation, I hope to continue deepening my research theme on mental health. Moving forward, I value not only literature-based study but also insights gained from real-world experiences.

Message for Students Interested in The Program

This program is highly recommended, whether this is your first academic experience or if you're getting back into academics after some time away. While it is a research program, it’s not all about serious study. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn and have fun, such as dining with local students and exploring the city. It’s much more than a typical trip; one of the biggest attractions is the unique perspective you gain by viewing the area through a research lens, which leads to discoveries. I think this program is the perfect "best-of-both-worlds" opportunity for anyone who wants to enjoy the local setting while expanding their interests and research.
