Experiences unique to your host country/university
During my time on exchange, I was able to have cultural experiences unique to Switzerland, where people of various backgrounds co-exist. In Switzerland, there are four commonly used languages. Although it is not a big country, the languages, cultures, customs and rules are different in different regions of the country. By traveling domestically in Switzerland, I made a ton of new discoveries.
Switzerland is located in the middle of Europe, so I could also travel to other countries very easily. During my time in Switzerland, I visited over 10 European countries.
Thanks to the support I received from my host university’s international office, I felt really safe and at ease while staying there.
Students in my classes were very intelligent, which helped me to learn a lot during my exchange. Classes consist of lectures and seminars. I had the opportunity to take specialized courses which had a small class size. I found the classes really interesting because they covered a lot of practical content.
Finally, I was able to look inwards and find myself when interacting with friends from various backgrounds, which included students with work experience and other exchange students from different countries.
Words of advice/encouragement for students who want to go on exchange in the future.
It’s up to you to make the best of this experience for yourself! You will definitely meet and make great friends. There will be difficult times, too, but by overcoming them you will be able to grow, which will make it all worthwhile. Please give it your all so that you will be glad you spent a quarter or an eighth of your precious time at university on exchange!
