Reason Why You Decided to Apply
I was curious about the values that international students from outside of APU have, and that’s why I decided to participate SEND program. I wanted to meet people of my age who have very different beliefs and backgrounds to my own, and therefore, the SEND program seemed like an ideal opportunity for me since it provided Japanese language classes alongside cultural immersion experiences in Vietnam. How the Program Helped You Grow
Reflecting on my journey in the program, one significant personal growth I have experienced is the development of a "positive attitude".
While I was always active within APU BUDDY (a student organization that supports exchange students at APU), my trip to Vietnam exposed me to an environment of few English speakers and required me to actively say yes to various invitations from Vietnamese nationals with open mindedness and optimism. As a result, consciously, practicing positivity has become ingrained into my communication style which has allowed me a more fulfilling approach towards learning.
Message for Students Interested in The Program
While challenging at times being involved with SEND offers unparalleled opportunities to connect with those unlike yourself which can lead to exciting personal growth. Initially, it was complex working alongside my fellow group mates who faced their own set of challenges but felt shy about voicing them out loud. In response I initiated an inclusive space where each person would be free to express their feelings without judgement or criticism from others. Establishing a safe zone allowed us all to relate better and empathize more strongly with each other’s experiences through active listening and authentic conversations.
I wholeheartedly believe that involvement in SEND will offer endless learning possibilities for participants like yourself -the program is specifically designed for your growth as an individual. Wishing you good luck throughout your journey ahead.
