Reasons for Participating in the Program

I decided to apply for the field study in Toho Village due to my profound interest in sustainable tourism. I major in Hospitality and Tourism, and I was able to develop a deep understanding of the industry through this program. Among many things, I was particularly drawn to the concept of sustainable tourism, which seeks to minimize negative impacts on the environment and maximize benefits for local communities. The field study at Toho Village offered a unique opportunity to apply this passion in a real-world setting while also practicing my Japanese skills. I believe that by participating in the field study, I could not only gain practical experience but also contribute to the village's development in a way that respects the environment, preserves its culture, and fosters economic growth, making a meaningful study journey during summer break.

How the Program Helped You Grow

I hoped to gain valuable insights and hands-on experience in sustainable tourism through this program. This experience will be the instrument for shaping my future undergraduate studies and career. I plan to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the program to my thesis for graduate school, where I intend to delve deeper into sustainable village tourism development. Furthermore, I aspire to work in the field of tourism, specifically focusing on village tourism development, especially in my home country - Vietnam as I also found particular similarities that Toho village has with my country villages. The program helped equip me with practical expertise in this area, enabling me to contribute to the growth of local communities while preserving their cultural and environmental heritage. This experience will serve as a strong foundation for my academic and career pursuits in tourism.
