Reason Why You Decided to Apply
At APU, I have taken on various challenges, such as being an RA, founding a club, and working as a TA. However, I haven’t been able to focus much on improving my English skills. When I started questioning whether I was ready to graduate like this, I came across this program. With its packed schedule over a short three-month period, including English study, internships, and class observations, I found it highly appealing as an opportunity to foster my personal growth. I also saw the three-month abroad experience as a great way to motivate myself for daily English learning. The weekly pre-departure classes allowed me to clarify my goals and make meaningful use of my time before going abroad.
How the Program Helped You Grow
I wasn’t very confident in my English skills initially, as I didn’t think my English was particularly strong. However, through this program, I spent every day expressing myself entirely in English during my internship and daily life. This experience gave me the courage to speak English more confidently, and now that I’m back in Japan, I feel motivated to continue improving my English skills. Additionally, during my internship, I had the opportunity to interview many people about cultural differences. Through these conversations, I realized that many things I had taken for granted in Japan were not universal. These insights, which I could only gain from being there in person, greatly changed my perspective. I believe this transformation in my values will be a significant asset as I plan my future career.
Message for Students Interested in the Program
Each program at APU has its own unique appeal, but I think the SLP is particularly special because it offers a wide variety of experiences within a short three-month period. The program provides numerous opportunities to make friends and interact with local university students, which made it a truly worthwhile experience for me. It was also interesting to see how each member of our group found their own way to enjoy the program, reflecting their individuality. I believe it’s a program that allows participants to grow in their own unique ways. And I must say, the hamburgers in Texas are absolutely delicious! Since there are not many opportunities to join programs that allow you to visit the United States through APU, I highly recommend this program to anyone who is considering it—take the leap and go for it!
