On Friday, July 3, 2009, the APU Event Organisation "Green Gram" involved in the recycling of disposable wooden chopsticks used at accommodation facilities in Beppu City, was appointed to the "Rubbish Zero Brigade" at the Oita Prefectural Office and presented with a Certificate of Appointment by Governor of Oita Prefecture Mr. HIROSE Katsusada.
Centering on the Prefecture, the "Rubbish Zero Brigade" which aims to protect the natural environment of Oita Prefecture and create a beautiful and comfortable Oita Prefecture that is considerate to the environment, is an organisation involved in environmental conservation programs such as recycling the reduction of rubbish. One of its primary projects is the "Operation Zero Rubbish Oita". Every year, organisations picked through a rigorous selection process carry out a range of environmental conservation activities during their term which runs until March.
In addition to Green Gram, nine other NPOs from within the prefecture were appointed to the "2009 Rubbish Zero Brigade" and presented a Certificate of Appointment and brigade flag by Governor of Oita Prefecture Mr. HIROSE Katsusada.
Appointment recipient and representative of Green Gram, TSUBOUCHI Marina (APS2, Japan) spoke of her happiness at being appointed and of her ambitions for future events, "I am very happy to have been appointed to the Rubbish Zero Brigade. I hope to work together with the other organisations to expand our sphere of activities."
Established in May this year, Green Gram currently has 6 members made up of 2 international and 4 domestic students who centre their activities on the recycling of disposable wooden chopsticks into paper. They are also planning for a global warming and world environmental issues event to be held in Hiji Town in August. Let's look forward to great things from Green Gram.
