Men's Futsal Team DELFINO Victorious in First Kyushu Regional University Competition

Jul 9, 2010

On Saturday, July 3rd and Sunday, July 4th the Fourth Annual Kyushu Regional University Futsal Competition was held in Usa city, Oita prefecture. The APU men's futsal team DELFINO, which was playing as the representative for Oita prefecture, won the title, its first top place ranking in team history.
DELFINO was founded in 2000, and the current roster of 25 has been playing practice matches against other university teams and practicing hard to make it to the national competition. They missed the national tourney in 2009 after placing 3rd in the Kyushu competition, but this time stellar teamwork led them to victory.

The competition pitted the 8 university futsal teams that won preliminary contests in the 8 prefectures of Kyushu against each other in a league-style tournament. DELFINO took the crown with a 3-2 win over Okinawa International University in the final match.

DELFINO Captain NAKANO Fumiaki (APS3, Japan) remarked on the team's win, "Thanks to everyone's support we won the Kyushu competition. I am full of gratitude and a sense of achievement. Working hard with my friends on this team to win this tournament has been an invaluable experience. Now we will set our sights on a higher goal and give our all at the national tournament ."

The victorious DELFINO will travel to the Maishima Arena in Osaka prefecture to represent Kyushu in the 6th All-Japan Futsal Competition on Saturday, August 28th and Sunday, August 29th. The competition will be formidable. Let's wish DELFINO all the best in the national competition.
