On Wednesday, June 23 and Wednesday, June 30, 2010, fifty-nine students from Daegu University (Korea) visited APU. Of this group, forty students were from the College of Social Sciences and nineteen students were from the College of Natural Sciences. The two groups enjoyed a campus tour and also met and held discussion with APU students. Daegu University is one of APU's affiliated institutes and concluded an agreement with APU in June, 2006.
The College of Social Sciences students arrived on campus on Wednesday, June 23, and were greeted by APU staff members before being given an introduction of APU in Korean by APU student HISAI Misumi (APS4, Japan). The College of Natural Sciences group, meanwhile, arrived on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, and was greeted by APS Professor and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, KONDO Yuichi.
Ms. HISAI gave the group an introduction of the unique English-Japanese dual language education system APU has adopted, the multicultural and multilingual environment with students from 98 countries and regions, and the AP House international educational dormitory. She also spoke of the high level of interest in Korea amongst APU students and the high levels of student interaction and exchange between Japan and Korea. The Daegu University students spoke of their amazement at the new APU facilities and the campus's international atmosphere.
Ms. HISAI spent one year at Kyung Hee University (Korea) in 2008 as a foreign exchange student and took part in this event as a way of expressing her gratitude to Korea. Ms. HISAI spoke of her ambitions for the future, "My exchange trip to Korea rekindled my interest in languages and I hope to work in a language related industry in the future".
